I’m a blogger and a winner!

A surprise!

It took me a while to check in with my blog and reply to comments after returning home from my trip to Switzerland. When I finally did, I discovered a gift was waiting for me. Evita from EvolvingScenes.com had awarded me with this Kreativ Blogger Award.  It made my day!

The Kreativ Blogger Award

blogger_awardI was surprised and touched by receiving this award. I have always enjoyed Evita’s blog. Her photographs and the words she writes to accompany them take my breath away. For her to send me this award is quite an honor, even if it does come with strings attached!

As Evita said in her post when she received this award, the subtitle should be “The 7-7-7 Award” because the number 7 is prominent in the following acceptance guidelines.

The Seven Guidelines for the Kreativ Blogger Award:

1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
4. Name 7 things about yourself that people might find interesting.
5. Nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers.
6. Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
7. Leave a comment on each of the seven blogs letting them know they have been nominated.

Seven Interesting Things about Me

When I came to this part of the award guidelines, I sat and stared at the empty white screen on my computer for some time. I thought to myself, “What on earth would other people find interesting about ME?” Okay, it wasn’t long before I realized this was Gertrude talking.

Gertrude is the part of me who believes I’m boring and uninteresting. She’s always telling me to be quiet and to not talk so much about myself. To be honest, I’m tired of Gertrude and I WANT this award! So, this time I told her to go and take a very long walk (maybe to Timbuktu!).

With Gertrude out my head, I was able to think of seven things that someone might find interesting about me:

1. I almost died when I was an infant. I had been sick and evidently stopped breathing. Fortunately for me, my father was a doctor and was able to revive me.

2. I like happy endings. Therefore, I frequently check the endings of movies and books to be sure they end well. No one likes to go to a sad movie with me because I cry very easily and not quietly!

3. I have lived in Florida my whole life; my great grandparents moved to Florida in the early 1800s. My grandfather served as bugler in the Spanish American war. I still have his bugle.

4. There are times when I just “know” things about people that turn out to be true, even if I don’t know them very well. I have also dreamt about people and events that have come true. While I definitely would NOT classify myself as a “medium”, some things I’ve known intuitively have surprised me.

5. I met my boyfriend online through Match.com. My online profile was titled, “Make me laugh.” He has done that and more. He’s a partner willing to grow and explore with me.

6. I have always wanted to be a healer – to help others find their balance in life. One area of interest I have been exploring is intuitive healing. I believe very strongly that we have amazing powers to help each other by using our personal energy, as well as the synergy created by a healing group.

7. I am proof that you can learn to change at any age. I’ll be 57 on July 11th. In the last four or five years, I’ve become much happier, calmer and more comfortable with my life. I am really enjoying who I am and my own unique path in this world.

My Seven Nominees for the Kreative Blogger Award

This was tough as there are many people and blogs I wanted to select, but I had to keep it to seven.

WOW! Thank you Sara! I am so honored that you have thought of me.

Cool facts about you… I would explore intuitive healing, sounds like you may be a natural. I am a Reiki practitioner…and you may want to explore that a bit more. If you ever want info, let me know.

Hi Sara,
Congratulations to you! This is very awesome, and it is because you really epitomize what this awards speaks to – creativity! Keep on being you in this space…

The bugle from your grandfather – I think this is so neat that you have it. What a treasure to hold on to! Great learning more about you (and Gertrude was wrong…you are very interesting).

And thank you, very much – for passing this award on to me! I’m deeply honored by this.

Love your photo! :) It’s so nice to know more about you, Sara.

You know, Caroline has a point. With your #s 4 and 6, you could really make an impact! Volunteering in a children’s hospital comes to mind…

I’m right with you on the happy endings. It took me forEVER to condition myself away from reading the last two chapters of a book before I’d start at the beginning! And I love Hallmark and Disney movies. ;)

Hugs to you!

Hi Sara. Great photo! :-) I can see why you were nominated as a Kreativ Blogger. And thank you for the nomination too. As you say, it was hard to think of 7 things, but once you put your mind to it, there is no shortage of things to talk about. I can sense the healing and intuitive side of you. And even Gertrude has no say in THAT matter.

@ Caroline — From your other site, Whimsical Whispers, I understand that you’ve been received quite a few awards lately (well deserved I’m sure) and as most blogger awards come with strings, if you can’t accept this one, I will fully understand. Just know that I really do think you are a very creative blogger!

Thanks about the intuitive healing and the recommendation about Reiki. I hadn’t really thought about that, but I have a friend who practices and I will check with her:~)

Sara June 26, 2009 at 10:15 am

@ Dani — How could I not send this award to you? I read your posts regularly and always get something special out of what you have to say!

Sara June 26, 2009 at 10:17 am

@ Tabitha — Yes, if my dad hadn’t been a doctor, I wouldn’t be typing away at this moment. I like to think it was a good sign that my angels made sure my dad was actually HOME when it happened as he often wasn’t.

I’m so pleased that you’re happy about the award. It is well deserved:~)

Sara June 26, 2009 at 10:22 am

@ Lance — Thanks for those nice words, Lance! The funny thing about the bugle is that no matter I try, I can’t get to make a sound. My kids on the other hand can blow it…it’s not particularly musical when they do this, but at least they can make call.

Regarding Gertrude, thank you for thinking I’m interesting. Most of time I do believe this. Fortunately, as I’m gotten older I’ve also gotten better at telling Ms. Gertrude to take a hike:~)

I am so pleased you’re honored to receive the award. As I said to others, it is well deserved as your site offers great tips and always makes me think. THANK YOU:~)

Sara June 26, 2009 at 10:25 am

@ Julie — Thank you for your comments….you make me smile today:~)

Regarding the picture, it’s a photo of me taken at an IMAX theater in London. My boyfriend and I went to a science museum and they had wonderful 3-D IMAX shows. We watched one about the sea and the kids below were soooo cute. They’d reach up trying to touch the fish. It was really an amazing experience! Anyway, that’s why I’m wearing the funky glasses.

Sara June 26, 2009 at 10:30 am

@ Davina — You can read my comment to Julie about why I’m wearing the funky glasses. I like this photo of me because it makes laugh every time! Thanks for your comment about the healing and intuition. For ages, I denied both of these things, but as I get older I’m am slowly learning to trust in them.

I can’t wait to read your post about being a Kreativ Blogger:~)

Sara June 26, 2009 at 10:32 am

@ Patricia — Thanks about the award. Just so you know, I love your comments and I do realize you have a very busy life…so come and visit when you can….that’s fine with me. I always enjoy your posts…you have such an interesting family. The Father’s Day post that included your daughter’s writing was marvelous:~)

Sara June 26, 2009 at 10:38 am

@ Tony and Cassy — Your site is always fun to read and I love the cartoons…to me, you are both very deserving of this award:~)

The photo of me in my funky glasses was taken when I was at an IMAX theater watching a 3-D movie. It was so cool….I can’t believe I had never seen a 3-D movie before. My boyfriend wanted to watch all the ones offered, but the ticket agent definitely told us that this was a no-no. Evidently, people have passed out from overdosing on 3-D:~)

Talon June 26, 2009 at 5:08 pm

I’m so glad that Gertrude follows directions and takes the hikes when you tell her to because just the fact that you had “Make me laugh” as the title on your profile is fabulous!

I’m laughing at you reading the endings to make sure about it’s a happy one. At least in fiction we can sneak peeks and find out – lol!

Congratulations on your well deserved award. And thank you so much for passing it on to me. It’s obvious I’m in some pretty stellar company!

Evita June 26, 2009 at 6:12 pm

Hi Sara and thank you so much for the beautiful words about my writing and Evolving Scenes blog! I am so glad you enjoy it so much :)

I too really enjoyed giving this award to you because when the word Kreativ came up I instantly thought of your story contest photo posts! Those are so, well in one word “creative” for us and you :)

And good for you for speaking out, you are an interesting person, and worthy and wonderful – we really all are. The only difference is we all come in different packages, but that is what makes us all so fun!

So in terms of your 7’s I LOVED learning more about you! I love the #2. Although I don’t check the ending, those are the only ones I like. Because life can be perfect and always have a happy ending (not like some people beleive that it is “unrealistic”)

And I really love the part about being an intuitive healer, I actually have a calling to get into that too. Have you read the book yet “Hands of Light?” It is my summer reading, but having just flipped through it, I already love it, plus the reviews on it are amazing!

And last but not least, I would love to ask you a few things about Florida some time perhaps, as my hubby and I would love to spend a month or perhaps longer if we “get lucky” down there this winter, rent a nice place near nature or so…

Congrats again!

Sara, we are in a similar boat with our age (although you do have a few years on me), but I feel very much like you do. I’m trying new things, going new places, and discovering things about myself that I would never have done only a few years ago.

Thank you for sharing these things about yourself, and congratulations on the award. :)

@ Talon — I know about the happy endings! Wouldn’t it be nice if you take a sneak preview at life? Then again, maybe that’s not such a good idea because you can put away a book, but you’re kind of stuck with dealing with your life. I’m pleased that you liked the award…it is well deserved:~)

Sara June 29, 2009 at 1:17 pm

@ Evita — Thanks for book recommendation. I will definitely check it out. Regarding Florida, feel free to contact me…send me an email and we can arrange a time. Also, thanks for your lovely comments and, of course, for awarding the Kreativ Blogger award. It means a lot to me:~)

Sara June 29, 2009 at 1:19 pm

@ Lisa — I have actually been to your site before, but make a mistake and didn’t put in my reader. I was very pleased that Davina gave you the Kreativ Blogger award because it allowed to get back in touch with site. I love the way you take pictures about where you live and then tell the story about the place. It’s like being on a tour with a guide only online:~)

Sara June 29, 2009 at 1:23 pm

@ Liara — That’s a great statement: “You are as talented as you choose to believe.” It’s making that choice that can be difficult at times because of the “Gertrudes.” We have to learn that we do have a choice, as you so wisely said, about believing in ourselves. For me, this will be an ongoing challenge, but each day I get better at it thanks to bloggers like you:~)

Sara June 29, 2009 at 1:24 pm

@ Mama Zen — Since you have Gertrude, maybe we should share notes sometime about how we can our Gertrudes to leave us alone! I appreciate your kind words about the award:~)

Lori Hoeck June 30, 2009 at 12:56 pm

Bye, bye Gertrude and hello Sara! My Inner Critic has taken up too much of my life as well.

Nice getting to know you with the photo (made me smile) and list of seven interesting things. As one turning 50 this year, I hear ya about the good side of aging.

@ Lori — Well, hopefully you understand that the photo isn’t one of my best shots, but it does make laugh! Turning 50 is a wonderful experience…you get away from those bothersome 40’s and enjoy your first new beginning…well, along with the first AARP solicitations:~)
