Story Photo: A Gift for You

a-candle-in-the-darkOut of the darkness

While JC and I were in Switzerland, we visited a winery in Beaune, France for a tour with our FSU students. The winery was located in a cavern, which kept the wine at the right temperature. This particular winery used to run my local monks and has a long history.

As we arrived ahead of the students, the guide sent us down into the cavern with vague directions for finding the wine tasting room. Unfortunately, he didn’t tell us how to turn on the lights. We got downstairs and started to walk further into the cavern, each step taking us deeper into the darkness.

It was actually quite spooky until JC bumped up against a table and discovered a candle and some matches. He lit the candle and suddenly the cavern glowed with the soft light. Using the candle, we managed to traverse through the darkness to find the right room!

Light up the darkness

The picture above is one I took of that candle that helped JC and I get out of the darkness. Looking at it reminds me that we all have times of traveling through darkness; times when we can’t see where we’re going or even appreciate where we’ve been. These times of darkness are also times when we need a candle to show us the way.

Our “candle” may not be made of wax, but instead come in the form of a person; someone who is there for us to light the way or remind us that we have the wisdom to find our own way out of our darkness.

Your Gift

Today, I’m not doing the usual Story Photo Challenge. Instead, I’m offering this candle to you as a gift. Use it to give hope to someone you know who is struggling in the darkness or give it to someone who has helped you in the past. It is yours to share. You can use the one at the beginning of this post, which has a quote, or use this one and add a quote or comment to it. candle-gift

No comment is necessary. I will trust that you will use either picture for lighting up someone’s life:~)

To use a picture, just right click on it and go to “save image as” to put it on your desktop. It’s that simple.

Here are some possible quotes you can consider or make up your own quote:

Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared. ~ Buddha

It is better to try to light a candle than to curse the dark. ~ Chinese Proverb
