Like Minds: The Love List Project

We bloggers tend to think alike.

One thing I love about blogging is the synchronicity between bloggers in my community. Many times I visit my Google Reader to find the authors have written about similar topics, even though the blogs are from places all around the globe. I believe there’s an energy that connects us and it comes out through our writing.

This happened to me recently when I visited Lance at the Jungle of Life and learned that Kristin Tennant of Halfway to Normal had come up with a fantastic idea called The Love List Project. Her idea is to develop your own “love list” and keep it going. She also came up with the idea of sharing our “love list” progress on her blog every Friday.

I loved this idea. But that’s not what amazed me.

That day I happened to be struggling with finding something to write about for an upcoming post. I turned to my “works-in-progress” file and, to my amazement, realized that I had already started a “love list.” I guess like minds really do think alike!

While I plan to share my progress with this list on Kristin’s blog, I realized that the list I currently have would not fit in her comment box :~) So, I decided to share my love list with you today.

My Love List

My kids
The evening sun shining through the leaves of a tree
People who make me laugh
My boyfriend and his cooking
People who make me think
The wonderfully creative people I’ve met while blogging
The sound of the wind as it blows winter leaves
My family of friends, especially those recently found
The feeling I get when I hit “publish”
Strawberry shortcake with ice cream
Watching birds frolic in the bird bath
People who say hello to me when I’m out walking
The sound of waves at the beach
Taking photographs that surprise me
Watching horses running loose in a field
People who never give up
Dolphins playing in the Gulf
Hawks flying high in the sky
Putting my feet in cool water on a hot summer’s day
People who like to laugh
The first bite of chocolate
Moss swinging from an oak tree
A wildflower beginning to bloom
The sound of wind chimes
Candlelight creating flickering shadows around a room
Looking at the stars on a dark winter’s night

When I read over this list, each item evokes a memory and makes me feel happy. I encourage you to develop your own list and watch it grow.

You don’t have to develop a long list. Just start out with one or two items and keep adding more. Once a week on Friday pull out a few of your favorites and pop over to Kristin’s blog to share them. By the way, the illustration I’ve used for this post was created by Kristin’s husband. Isn’t that cool:~)

Have fun with this list. I think writing it will rapidly become one of the things you love!

You’re invited to the unveiling of the new header for my blog. I love it and hope you will also. It’s different, funky, and lighthearted and fun :~)

Hi Sara.
A love list is such a great thing to do as it helps to access joy and make the heart strong. Recently I am getting how much the heart can guide our lives but it is also made weak by living and the battering it gets.
Thus these things are actually very important to access joy and making the feelings of joy stronger and stronger. It is like making muscles strong.
I love taking time to savor things, to taste how good they are and it is a good idea to have a list let me.
I wanted to go over to Kristin’s list as it is Friday here. But I do not think it is Friday there yet so I have to wait. But I can share a few items on my list here if I may.
I love my shower in the morning. I absolutely make sure I am present to my first sip of coffee.
I love doing my Pilates and then giving John a hug at the end of it.
I love the smell of mowed grass.
I love feeling the sunshine on my face and so much more.
I love being reminded of what I love, so thank you, Sara.

@ Wilma — That’s such a cool thought…about using and accessing joy to make the heart stronger. Your love list made me smile. I liked everything you wrote…well, except for the smell of new mowed grass (I’m allergic to it)! I hope you do go over to Kristin’s site Friday and share the love:~)

Hi Sara,
I love seeing this idea grow! So awesome, and so great to see love expanding in so many wonderful ways.

So many on your list jump out at me. One in particular did today, especially. The “Publish” button. I so understand what you mean, and the feeling it evokes. And seeing it on your list, I’m reminded of what that deeply means to me…

Also on my list:
A sunset or sunrise over the ocean (I need to live closer!!)
Walking barefoot in the grass
The first snowfall of the season
Deer in the backyard
A hug from one of my kids
A backrub from my wife
A hot shower on a cold day

And that’s a start….

So good to think about Sara, thank you for keeping this going!

@ Lance — I also love to see this project growing and expanding. I hope others will help it keep going. I find that I feel good in updating my list AND reading what others add to theirs. I thank Kristin for coming up with the idea and you for spreading the word. I am always amazed at your generosity…you help so many different people and projects. I think I’ll add that to my love list…I love bloggers who are always willing to share their space to help others:~)

Hi Sara – What a lovely idea. I’ll keep it short. In honor of my anniversary today, I love having one person in this world who knows me better than anyone else, who’s seen me at my best and my worst, and who’s always there. Thanks!

Hello Sara!

I have noticed what you speak of , this interconnectedness of bloggers and I think it is awesome. Just further evidence of the “Energy” we all share and tap into.

I really like this Love List thing. A few things on my list would be:

Listening to peaceful music (like something with Native American Flute) while sitting in a coffeshop and enjoying my coffee

Sitting by the ocean at night and hearing the waves

Walking in the woods

Walking anywhere and feeling Jenny’s ( my wonderful lady) hand in mine

Hi Sara

Yes, what a wonderful project this is! I also learned about it through Lance’s site.

Your list is beautiful and I love the energy that we are all spreading into the Universe by thinking, reading and writing about this topic – love and all that we love :)

Wishing you a fantastic weekend!

@ Evita — So TRUE…it’s good energy isn’t it. I find that the more we share of the “good” energy, the more it sticks around. When I feel a bit off base, all I have to do is visit your site and others to help me get centered again. I am so lucky to have met bloggers like you:~)

@ Jannie — Thanks about the list:~) Regarding my header, I am both excited and nervous about it. I’ve had a lot of help with this. It does feel, however, like redecorating your house. One thing I love about blogging and WordPress, is the ease at which you can play with ideas on your site!

@ Carol — It is like a gratitude list. What I love is how Kristin is keeping it going by dedicating her Friday blog to updating our love lists. It encourages me and I assume others to keep writing about the things we love.

I’m a bit nervous about the header, but I do love it. I hope you feel that it fits and like it:~)

Hi Sara. You’re a nature spirit to the core. So many items on your list involve nature and are special to me as well :-)

I was enjoying torrential rain the other evening… from my balcony, while sipping a glass of wine. Wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much if I had to go out in it though. I also love when little babies smile at me. It melts my heart.

@ Davina — My love of nature really did show up in my list. That a cool thing about what Kristin has started. People keeping their love lists are seeing themes in them. I suppose the more you write, the more themes will appear in your list. These themes can tell you something more about yourself. In my case, the focus on nature tells me that nature is a place of sanctuary for me. I get a great deal of peace and joy from it.

Given your recent posts about your vacation, it is very clear how important nature is to you. I’ve enjoyed them all very much:~)
