George Carlin Jokes
Why don’t sheep shrink when it rains?
This quote is attributed to George Carlin. Carlin was an expert at what is now called, “why jokes.”
George Carlin wasn’t always an easy comedian to like. Some of his jokes could be rather “off-color” and there are people who find him quite offensive.
He was known for his dark humor and would often challenge subjects that were considered taboo.
For example, his comedy monologue, “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television,” led to a Supreme Court judgment which allowed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to prohibit broadcasting obscene material during the hours that children are likely to be among the TV audience.
Whether you like him or not, Carlin was a creative comic. He’d ask about things we take for granted and turn them into funny questions, but ones that would make you think, as well as laugh. The quote about the sheep is a good example.
Here are a few of my favorite “why” jokes attributed to George Carlin:
If the “black box” flight recorder is never damaged during a plane crash, why isn’t the whole airplane made out of that stuff?
Why do you press harder on a remote-control when you know the battery is dead?
Why is the third hand on the watch called the second hand?
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?
If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?
When I read these questions, I can’t help but laugh out loud. They are so simple, yet somehow very profound…at least to me:~)
