Movie Frames
When I look at this picture of my cat, it makes me think of a movie. Aggie looks poised for action and it makes me wonder what the next frame of this movie will be.
In movies, the term “frame” is used to refer a series of individual images, which when put together in succession, create the sense of motion. As the frames progress rapidly, what we see appears seamless.
According to Wikipedia, “The viewer cannot see the flickering between frames due to an effect known as persistence of vision, whereby the eye retains a visual image for a fraction of a second after the source has been removed. Viewers perceive motion due to a psychological effect called beta movement.”
The Challenge
Today’s challenge is to look at this picture of Aggie and tell me about the movie this frame is from. Here are some questions to consider in describing the movie:
- What type of movie is this? Is it Science Fiction, Drama, Musical, Action, Romantic Comedy or another type?
- If you were the director, how would you get Aggie to cooperate with you?
- What period of time does this movie take place?
- What costume does Aggie have to wear?
- Who is Aggie’s leading actor in this movie?
- What happens in the next frame?
My Example
Here’s my example of how I would describe this movie:
- This is a spaghetti western and Aggie is a saloon girl.
- I get Aggie to cooperate by using dog food
- Takes place in the “Wild West” period (around the 1800’s)
- A frilly dress with lots of petticoats, which annoys Aggie as she constantly trips on the petticoats
- Of course, The Duke is the leading actor, but he’s allergic to cats and so, his nose is always red.
- In the next frame, Aggie has to rescue the Duke from an evil man dressed in black. Claws are used, need I say more?
You know the drill; put your answers in the comment box.
Have fun, be creative and enjoy!
An Update:

Remember the Story Photo Post, Help Me Make A Choice, where I asked you to vote on a picture that would go up on the empty wall in my office. Betcha thought I forgot about this?
It’s finally done. It took longer because I ended up having to get the picture professionally framed so that I could include my quote, “Dare to test your balance every once in awhile.” Framing, by the way, isn’t cheap. Still, I’m pleased with results and I hope all of you who voted will like it too:~)

Hold on to your handbags ladies and gents as this is the star of a classic good against evil, 21st century movies!
Introducing “Super Cat”
This gorgeous feline disguises herself in a scruffy body suit, as a stray cat, as she wanders the city ensuring public safety.
Love and affection is the key to her participating in this role and wearing her costume.
She doesn’t ahve a leading human, but she protects the world from Dr Duffenswertz – played by Dixie – a fiery red, big, Maine Coon who lives with us.
Were we to see what happens next, we would find our star, “Super Cat” creeping through cat niip fields, picking the finest of the lot. Dixie is no match for premium grade catnip!
An Exceptional 10 Year Old´s last [type] ..Waiting to Exhale
@ An Exceptional 10 Year Old — What a great screenplay:~) Aggie would be thrilled at this role. She already thinks she Super Cat. I’d love to see pictures of Dixie some time:~)
I think Aggie is starring in a Stars on Ice reality film with Brian Boitano. She has just twirled around on her shiny surface and is preparing to glide toward Brian wearing a shimmery skirt.
Lynn´s last [type] ..Peaceful- lovely read and twisty handle
@ Lynn — LOL This is so much fun, given that I know the cat. The idea of Aggie in a Stars on Ice reality film with Brian Boitano (who I used to love to watch skate) cracks me up. It especially funny when you think Aggie has NEVER even seen snow and she knows how do with ice is bat an ice cube around the kitchen until it melts. Still, the idea of her coasting along with Brian as they skate in perfect harmony is a nice dream:~)
Aggie stars in a contemporary story of a woman who is falling in love with a man who seems wonderful, but in fact, only wants her money and plans to *gasp!* get rid of her best friend, her cat, as well!
First, Aggie trips him up on the stairs as he walks smugly down expecting breakfast. He falls and breaks a few things, but this only makes her human fuss over him all the more. To make it all worse, he spends all day on HER couch!
The villain heals, and one night he kneels to propose, all the while laughing inside and counting the money he will fleece her out of. At the crucial moment, Aggie leaps across the room and knocks the ring out of his hand ( a knock-off, of course) and it skitters through the grate in the floor and into the ventilation system. For her heroics, Aggie is treated as a villain herself.
By now, the whole theater is crying for the wronged and heroic Aggie, and shouting at her Mistress to wake up! Poor Aggie is confined to her carrier, but when the dastardly suitor rises in the night to pilfer from the jewelry box, Aggie sets up such a screeching that her Mistress awakes and catches him at it.
The nogoodnik is thrown out on his ear, without so much as bus fare. Aggie is released from her carrier and celebrated as the superheroine that she is. THE END.
Fireblossom´s last [type] ..Harbinger
@ Fireblossom — Great next frame. I love this movie!!! It reminds me of the Disney movie “That Darn Cat.” I used to love that movie:~) I think Aggie would enjoy this part very much and I like that the “nogoodnik” is thrown out on his ear. Also, you’ve got one of Aggie strong points down pat. For a little cat, she’s got the loudest, most demanding meow I’ve every heard!
Thanks for sharing this. I’m really having fun reading the comments on this one:~)
This is an action movie starring Aggie the cat and Horace the rat. Horace is just now setting up an elaborate and complicated cat trap (just outside of this frame of action) because there is a world where rats are kings and cat traps are accepted. Aggie isn’t as particular as other cats (are you listening Fancy Feast beast?) and will dutifully follow the director’s directions with the aid of a tuna can and a can opener. After every take she likes a little sample and she is definitely looking forward to the last scene of the movie when cats the world over will meow their approval when Horace (who only thinks he is clever) accidentally falls victim to his own trap.
Thankfully, the story of the cat and the rat is timeless so no need for fancy costumes (Aggie balked at wearing a bonnet when the writer envisioned a period piece) and Horace would not don a miniature leather cowboy hat when the writer had a sudden inkling that a Western would be the way to go. So wanting the actors to feel comfortable, the movie is set in the present time and they are both more comfortable in their own skin (or fur).
The action shot you see above ended up on the cutting room floor because Aggie had caught a glimpse of Horace way too early and was immediately ready for action before the action was required. Horace and Aggie’s scenes have been shot independently since that near disastrous (for Horace) shot set-up.
Talon´s last [type] ..Efflorescence
@ Talon — LOL again! This story is great. I love the part about the bonnet and the leather cowboy hat. The last paragraph is a winner…you are too funny. It’s obvious, you know cats!!!
When I a kid, we had solid black appropriately named Halloween. When we were little and didn’t know better, my sister and I used to dress her in doll clothes (I do NOT recommend this – it is a form of cruelty to animals) . She’d usually get dress off quickly, but the bonnet would stay longer. My mom would yell at us and we have to go catch the cat running around the house with a bonnet on. Needless to say, Halloween was VERY VERY unhappy with us.
What type of movie is this? Is it Science Fiction, Drama, Musical, Action, Romantic Comedy or another type?
This is a Disney fantasy and in this frame, Aggie is a very life-like animation.
If you were the director, how would you get Aggie to cooperate with you?
Ha! I’ts almost like I wrote the first response in order to bypass this question! Good art direction won’t cramp Aggie’s style by always making sure there are no unflattering back shots (or illustrations).
What period of time does this movie take place?
Today
What costume does Aggie have to wear?
A superhero costume with a cape and a slinky bodysuit
Who is Aggie’s leading actor in this movie?
Aggie is the star of this film. With those peepers? Who needs another leading actor!
What happens in the next frame?
Aggie takes another step and finds herself on the rooftops of Paris, in full gear, chasing werewolves whose mission is to annihilate the feline population.
BTW, I love the quote you put below the framed image! It’s so much about embracing life and all that coems with it. (This coming from someone who doesn’t get what the big deal is about “balance”.)
@ Belinda — I like the idea of animation film….I didn’t think of that one. Oh, Aggie says thanks about the “peepers.” She is rather vain, you know, but I still love her. She also thinks the idea of going to Paris, even as an animation would be wonderful. She’s heard that there are lots of big rats there. While her superhero feline anime is slaying the werewolves, Aggie will be hunting the rats:~)
Regarding the picture, thanks about the quote. It’s nice to have the picture up because I can look at regularly from my desk. Maybe you don’t the big deal about balance because it’s not that an issue for you…some people have natural balance…kind of like cats. When they fall, they almost always land on their feet. Here’s a video of one (be patient through the gas commercial)!
(1) This is a new drama starring Aggie, the world’s first feline detective. (2) All it takes for her cooperation is top billing, and a share in her own catnip farm. (3) Filmed in the summer of 2010, this will surely become a classic. (4) Aggie will be the cat’s meow in a stunning two-piece, custom made, mole-skin suit. (5) For this feature, Aggie is teaming up with Stripey (Talon’s kitty) to blow the whistle on crime. (6) In the next frame, Aggie is preparing to demonstrate a critical technique – the stare.
@ Linda — Are you sure Aggie will not eat the suit before she wears it? Oh, I think Aggie loves the idea of meeting Stripey. She made me copy a picture Talon had up of Stripey and Missy, but Aggie cut out Missy and put herself next to Stripey. I like the “stare.” She is actually pretty good at this, especially in the morning. She sits next to me on the bed and stares at me, waiting for me to wake up. It’s weird when you wake to cat’s stare:~)
Loved your screen play and thanks for sharing this:~)
Hi Sara,
Thanks for another challenge, I appreciate them and your originality to even dream them onto the screen. You are so creative! (Sorry to chicken out, my mind feels like mud today — glug glug.)
I wanted to take the opportunity, though, to compliment you on your framed photo with the quote. It’s beautiful, Sara. I love how the sienna frames the image so warmly and the quote rocks, too.
Thanks for sharing the final product with us and for asking for our involvement in the first place. _/|\_ (~namaste~)

Lori´s last [type] ..Describe Your Awesomeness
@ Lori (Surfer Girl) — That’s okay. I’ve had a cold and have felt like I am moving through syrup so I understand perfectly:~) I will think good clean thoughts so that the mud will wash away!
Thanks about the picture. I think it did turn out well. Also, thanks to everyone who participated in that vote!!!
BTW I loved your challenge post…it was so much fun. You should do that more often!!!
Type: Science Fiction
Cooperate: I’d use look alike stuff cats
Time: Now
Costume: None
Star: Corton from the plant Narten
Aggie senses something wrong and thinks it is behind her. As she turns to look poof she’s gone and you hear a cat scream. All you see is drops of blood hitting the floor where she was and some kind of reddish goo.
desk49´s last [type] ..Missing- Short Story Page 3
@ Ellis — I started to write something about you used doubles (stuffed cats) instead of Aggie and then I finished your “frame” and I’m actually relieved that you’re using stuffed cats…as is AGGIE. As a matter of fact, I read this aloud and now Aggie is nowhere to be seen:~)
I think it is a Documentary about the psychology of cats. I would get Aggie to cooperate with me by using dried salmon bits, but really I would be taking hours of film and have to edit, because I would want it to be real life not acted.
#3 the past year it took me to film and #4 her own fur because each of the critters of the earth should be themselves (according to many, many blog and self-help book writers)
#5 That adorable and feisty squirrel from Talon’s blog posts with a back up double from Jannie’s posts…but not blue bunny.
#6 Aggie can not believe you let that pesky squirrel into the house just to take a movie…should she pounce, or stalk her prey? her curiosity? Will she get in trouble? The director decides that Aggie should just explore because this critter is no longer baiting her outside the door and window and she knows that this is her turf and it is a closed environment. Her motivation is that she is wondering if you want this pest to be her new friend.
@ Patricia — I like the documentary and Aggie likes the idea of keeping her fur:~) She definitely supports your next frame and letting the squirrel in the house, but she’s not sure the friendship idea. Aggie’s not a great believer in kindness and compassion, but I like your idea:~)
I personally think this is from a yoga or Pilates video — Aggie and other cats, as this picture shows, certainly have much to teach us about spinal flexibility.
@ Chris — No Kidding! Aggie can twist her body into places that would amaze you. She puts the rest of poor humans to shame. Then again, she’s forgets that she’s inside because she’s scared of the thunderstorm and so, she begs to go out again and is out for five seconds before we start this all over. Brain power vs flexibility….? I think I might vote brain power:~)
Hi Sara – This really isn’t a cat at all but my dog in a cat costume. He is ready to pounce on the bear that just clawed its way into the kitchen thru the screen door and is feasting on my fruit bowl.
This is really my nightmare! Had a bear on my porch a few weeks ago and thankfully the patio door was shut because I actually had to put on the a/c. If not, easy access.
hugs
suZen
@ suZen — That’s scary about the bear. I’ve heard when hungry they can be very assertive. We have black bears at the beach I go to and they occasionally knock over garbage cans, etc. Usually, the park people come and get them for relocation.
Back to your movie frame. Aggie is very relieved that the dog stepped in for this scene. She’s not too fond of really big animals…like bears:~)
Hi Sara
Oh this is too cute!
I think Aggie is in a martial arts action movie, and she is just about to take a very calculated plunge at her opponent, who by the way is trying to take over the world with genetically modified cat food.
Well Aggie will have none of that. She is all dressed is a sleek black suit and to get her to cooperate various colors of yarn are used to dangle and entice our leading lady
Evita´s last [type] ..When Lovers Meet
@ Evita — Actually, martial arts would fit Aggie to a tee!!! She does a lot of pouncing and dancing when I put paper balls on the floor. I like the idea that she’s going after the evil opponent who’s trying to take over the world with genetically modified cat food. Truth be told, Aggie loves the dog’s food. I can’t give much because it’s not as healthy as the cat food, but she absolutely adores. The minute I open the dog food can…here comes Aggie.
I like the “sleek black suit” and I think Aggie might enjoy this, as well. She does love yarn and ribbon and so they are excellent enticements to get her do something:~)
Thanks for sharing in this challenge:~)
First off, that photo frames beautifully, don’t you think?
1) What type of movie is this? Is it Science Fiction, Drama, Musical, Action, Romantic Comedy or another type?
It’s a punk rock documentary featuring Agadore “The Bramble” Vicious (Aggie to her chums), a lead meowler of the Barking Mad Alley Cats.
2) If you were the director, how would you get Aggie to cooperate with you?
I wouldn’t. She’s pure punk, baby! I’d just make sure to keep the cameras out of her way!
3) What period of time does this movie take place?
There’s no time like the present. Like. Right NOW.
4) What costume does Aggie have to wear?
She don’t wear nothin’, baby! She’ll go where she likes, as nekkid as she likes. She’ll brazenly drape herself wherever if it’ll give the scandalised middle class folks an eyeful of her impressive, stripey body tattoos! If you got it, flaunt it! That’s her motto!
5) Who is Aggie’s leading actor in this movie?
She’s more real than real, so no actor can handle playing her, and no actor can handle playing alongside her. Ain’t no one gonna cramp her hard living style! She go solo, baby. So-lo.
6) What happens in the next frame?
She trashes the mini bar.
@ Tony — Thanks about the photo. LOL I love the names Agadore “The Bramble” Vicious!!! and the Barking Mad Alley Cats! I agree about getting her cooperation, it is best to keep the cameras out of her way. And I also agree about the time period ’cause Aggie is all about NOW.
She is pretty partial to her striped coat. I like the motto “If you got it, flaunt it!
You are so funny, Tony,….I like the trashing of the mini-bar and it full of her favorite kitty treats, which by way are NOT tuna. Aggie doesn’t like tunafish or catnip. She’s a very persnickety punk rocker:~)
I cannot help but notice the beautiful floor you have there Sara. Ok, I digress a little.
I think Aggie is no doubt in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats and is wearing one of those sexy outfits they wore in the production. Aggie is Cats’ Admetus who finally is caught on camera!
Colleen´s last [type] ..Barnard Griffin Winery’s 5 for 5 at 5-00pm
@ Colleen — That’s funny about the floor. I mean that you would notice it. We have wood floors throughout the house except in the kitchen and family room. They make it lots of funny for Aggie who has “the slide” down almost perfectly.
I think Aggie would enjoy being CATS, as long as she doesn’t have to sing:~)
Thanks for sharing this, Colleen:~)
Hi Sara .. brilliant – & Aggie caught in the act of looking at the little beetle that’s dared to enter the room and is running around on your shiny floor – as someone pointed out! Very well polished .. mind you your table with its silver frames on it .. looked special too ..
The Picture looks wonderful now it’s framed and I’m pleased you’re happy with it ..
Just love the idea .. another day I’m afraid .. unpacking etc to do .. let alone get over and catch up on other blogs .. bye for now .. Hilary
Hilary´s last [type] ..Emoticons- Book Packaging- ebooks what was the future- is now the past
@ Hilary — Uh Oh…beetles. These are Aggie favorite toys. Unfortunately, for the beetles, they don’t last long…unless I catch them first and then put them outside:~) The one thing about a cat and picture frames is that they really mix well. I had to move off my fireplace mantle because Aggie can jump on and she’s very careful about nik naks, especially if they look like something to play with. I had this beautiful little wooden bird that has now disappeared, even after lots of searching…it’s gone.
Thanks about the framed picture. I do like it. Good luck with your unpacking and visiting:~)
1. What type of movie is this? It’s a horror movie. She looks pretty scaredy-cat like

2. If you were the director, how would you get Aggie to cooperate with you? I don’t think I’d have much control over Aggie. The crew would have to work with her, lol.
3. What period of time does this movie take place? In the year 2075.
4. What costume does Aggie have to wear? No costume. The year 2075 promotes minimalism.
5. Who is Aggie’s leading actor in this movie? A huge rat named Hector; he’s the same size as she is.
6. What happens in the next frame? Hector disappears from Aggie’s view as he is “beamed up” to the space ship
Davina´s last [type] ..Butterflies and Glitter
@ Davina — Obviously, you know something about cats:~) I like your optimism….you set the movie after 2012, but I’m curious how you picked the year 2075? I also wonder if it’s a good thing to be beamed up to the space ship in 2075 and if Hector is as big as Aggie, I imagine she’s glad he was beamed up:~)
I love it when you participate in one of these challenges:~)
