Happy New Year: Sharing

Sharing

You can’t miss seeing me.
You with the bucket full of fish.
I stand; belly hungry.
Just one would fill my empty dish.

They come easy to you.
You get them with barely a fight.
I stand; eyes locked on blue.
Hoping one soon comes into sight.

You sit in your small chair.
You catch many with just a pull.
I stand; mouth begs. Please share!
Thank you, now my belly is full.

How do you plan to share in 2012?

Pick one, two, or all of these questions to answer in the comment box. Please let me know the question(s) you picked.

  1. In this New Year, what do you want to share with others?
  2. How do feel when you share with someone or someone shares with you?
  3. Why do you think sharing is so important?

Note to my readers…

In case you’ve wondered where I’ve been. We took a short vacation. I bet you can’t guess where!

It was so nice to come back and find so many wonderful comments in my box. I’ll be out visiting very soon. I’m looking forward to catching up with what you’ve been writing while I’ve been away:~)

I would like to share my talents in a job that makes a difference in people’s lives. One could argue that I make a difference selling printing, but not so much, I think. :)

Welcome back and I hope you had a lovely time.

@ Lynn — I love that this is what you’d like to share. I can see you doing this!

Have you thought about ways you could do it? I don’t know how much time you have, but I imagine there are nonprofits that would LOVE to have someone with your talents help with their publications. It’s not direct help, but it could make a BIG difference for a small nonprofit. Again, I’m not suggesting you go out and do this, especially if your current work is very demanding! It’s just an idea:~)

I plan to share my poetry and also a smile whenever I can.

I love it when someone shares something with me, because they are sharing something of themselves, and that’s an honor.

Sharing is connecting…that’s one reason it is important. Someone should have a blog and call it The Sha–..oh wait, that may already have been done!

Your poem made me smile ear to ear.

My poetry will NEVER compete with yours…thank goodness. You are one of the most prolific and gifted poets I know. I will send the QOTV after you if you ever STOP. I need the fix:~)

Why do I think sharing is so important? Because sharing unites.

It does not divide. It does not polarize. It does not hoard. It does not pit one against another.

@ Columbi — I like that…”The Year of Sharing.” You might consider playing with this idea at your site. This might be a really good year to focus on since there’s been so much said about 2012!

Hi Sara!
I look forward to all the sharing you do here – and stimulating as well! Glad you aren’t anticipating any major changes! :)
Blogger has been busy screwing up blogs and our dashboards for a fun start to 2012. NOT. My plans for 2012 are to keep sharing info on health and wellness and nutrition weekly once I get over the technical difficulties, haha!
How nice you had a get away!

Hi Sara: Wishing you a great 2012. Picture looks so much like what we saw yesterday at the inlet across from St. Vincent NWR after spending the weekend in Apalchicola and driving along the coast. Weather sure took a change for us….I like the cool/cold weather……..Ken

This poem warmed my heart, Sara. I was just reading an article in the NYT about how common it is for children to skip days without a meal in the Democratic Republic of Congo. There is plenty of food and sustenance around — it seems like a solvable problem but we need to work together to make it happen. Sharing is the only way we will get through our challenges.

Happy new year to you! I had quite an enjoyable time away and mostly off the grid — happy to be back.

@ Belinda — I’m so pleased you stopped by and reminded all of us about the importance of global sharing. It’s so easy to think locally or personally and not about what we do can to help keep this tiny planet and it’s people alive. BTW I know you’d agree this doesn’t have to gifts of money. As bloggers, we have the power of our words and they can get the message out to others:~)

Like you, I was “off grid” for some of the holidays and loved it, but I’m also happy to be back.

I have and shall continue to share my experience of chronic depression and anxiety with others on my allotment blog. I think it’s very important as I seem to have become a voice, speaking out for others too scared or made to feel ashamed by their mental illness. I am completely humbled and believe me I find it difficult but I think sharing in this sense makes people feel less alone, less like a freak and less hopeless.

@ Carrie — I am so proud of you. You have spoken out so eloquently and I know many people who have been helped by your words. It’s such a shame we’ve stigmatized depression and other mental illnesses. We don’t do with most physical illnesses, but because we do with mental conditions, the consequence is people often don’t get help.

But then, there YOU are…reminding people they aren’t alone and giving them ways to get through difficult times. I read your words. I know of your struggles, but I also know of your strengths. Keep on sharing, Carrie. You’re sharing a very precious gift…. hope.

Hi, Sara—-great to have you back! I can’t wait to see what you and everyone here will share for the new year! I plan to share my art knowledge and my encouragement with the other artists and my students. I also plan to be a good listener for those who are gracious enough to share their thoughts and feelings with me! Of course, I will share the paintings with anyone who comes into my studio because they are all up on the wall :) . Sharing seems like the best way to connect with other people ——it takes courage to share from the heart with another person, and I am grateful when someone does that. Thanks for providing a forum for lots of great sharing, Sara!

@ Jean — You are one of the best “sharers” I know of. Not only do you share encouragement, art and your own gift for teaching….you also share some of the funniest stories and videos I’ve ever read/seen. You’ve given me so many laughs this year through your funny videos. My favorites were the bear dancing and the turtles. I thank you for sharing in the MANY ways you do it:~)

No, you didn’t miss anything in my store. My photos aren’t up yet. That is a goal for me in 2012, being brave and putting myself out there by adding some of my work to the store. Thanks again for your encouragement. My store wouldn’t exist if it hadn’t been for your comment that day. :) xo

Things has happened
for which I have no clue
people come and go
only one or maybe two

I write no more
I know not why
my words to me
flow like bad wine

My wife moved out
then moved back in
she left last week
now back again

The house’s a wreak
what can I will I do
the wind blew away
and my roof did to

How will I get
all this work done
wait the wife just left
now I can have some fun

That was for you
because you stopped by
as for your post none like to shair
so why should I

I’ve missed you too, Sara! Fun poem, beautiful photo, my friend. I have a burning desire to bring women together to share creative wisdom. Last year I started facilitating women’s creative wisdom circles in Sacramento and the transformative power of circles + creativity + women just knocked me over. So this is the year I try to figure out a way to do it virtually through telecircles. What do you think?

Hi Sara,
Happy New Year! I’m finally making it back out into the blogging world after my break. Your vacation looks wonderful. I love those birds and I’m always rooting for them to get the fish. I believe in sharing. When we were in Florida last November, we saw a boy about 12 or so, fishing. The birds were trying to take his bait fish. He was done with that spot and going to move, so he opened his fish bucket and let us feed them to the birds. Cool!

Sharing is important, and not only the good, but the not-so-good as well. This past year has had both the good and not-so-good. Sharing makes the good times better, and the others less difficult.

Other things I would like to share are my writing and painting. Sara, many blessings of the New Year to you and your family.

Hi Sara .. glad you had a bit of a break .. and hope you both feel refreshed .. Sharing – for me I’m doing some voluntary work up at the Nursing Centre – discussions, conversations .. my type of thing, and a newsletter, a blog and stories/memory stories .. a lighter version of my P L – but bringing some of my own memories back .. There will be more to come up there too ..

Sharing and giving is so important .. Happy New Year to you and yours .. cheers Hilary

@ Hilary — I love how busy you keep yourself. It’s nice that you are volunteering at the Nursing Centre. I can see you leading discussions at the Nursing Centre. I bet you help new people who have family at the Centre. That’s so important to have someone who understands the concerns and can help someone feel good about their decisions.

Regarding your own memories, I hope you’ll share more of them at your site, especially about living South Africa. I get the sense this was a special time and it is a very unique place on this planet. I wish you lots of positive letters:~)

@ Talon — Thank you about the pictures and poem. I had FUN with this. When I took the picture of the fisherman and the bird watching him, it cracked me up. It looked like a standoff, but later the fisherman did give the bird some of his bait fish, which is probably why the bird was watching him in the first place:~)

I agree with what you said about sharing. What amazes me is how our ability to share with each other and our world continues to expand. I choose to see this as a hopeful thing; sharing can only bring the peoples of this world closer together and give all of us a better understanding of each other. That is, if we use it that way.

One last thing, I love it that you are writing so much now and so beautifully. I sense an opening up or freedom in your writings. I don’t have the right words, but whatever they are, it’s a joy to visit your site:~)

Hi Sara,
I love your poem and your beautiful pictures. I do miss the ocean and can’t wait to go back.
I love learning about people and their interests. I wish to share with others the things that I have learned over the years as well as my love of learning. I find it fascinating that we can all be so different yet still want so many of the same things. I believe that it is only by listening to each other that we can really grow.
I am so glad that you are back writing and sharing with us. I look forward to your posts each week.

Hi, Sara,

Just dropped in to wish you a wonderful New Year! Saw your note at my blog. (I’m no longer updating there, but having fun creating in other ways – writing my novel and making mosaic terra cotta pots with my own tiles.)

Awesome photos! Beautiful! Serene. I’m in love with that top photo.

Hope you’re well.

Take Care,
